There’s always something nice about curling up with a bowl of popcorn and popping in an old black & white film. Maybe it’s the nostalgia for a day in which people wore gloves and hats out in public. Maybe we miss the Man’s Man or dogs named Fido and Rover. After all, there’s something to be said for the old-world elegance of red lipstick and perfectly coiffed curls. And who hasn’t fallen in love with the adorable dresses that were everyday wear?
I always got a kick out of stories from my grandmother about how people used to get dressed up to go to the airport, that when you flew you wore nice clothes for the voyage. It seems a world away from the slouchy sweats and goofy travel pillows I see draped on exhausted travelers who are waiting to board the last leg of their trek across the country. While I may not be willing to forgo the comfort of my yoga pants it’s still possible for my luggage to reflect a bit of that retro-style.
Check out Mellow World’s flowery rolling duffel and while you’re at it why not break out the pumps and bust out a song from Dino or Old Blue Eyes?

Travel duffels range from anything carry-on sized to rolling duffle bags. However, there’s one class of these travel bags that’s slightly unique - and that’s the weekender. Weekenders are like carry-on bags in that they are smaller and are designed to carry 1 or 2 days worth of items. However, weekenders are often more fashionable than your typical luggage - sometimes even being made by handbags brands.
These bags are also sometimes called overnight bags. They are perfect for weekend getaways, short trips, times at the beach, and can sometimes even be used as sports or gym bags.

Often, travel duffels are lumped in with luggage, but make no mistake. Travel duffle bags are not your average suitcases. They are much more flexible in terms of how you pack them, often more lightweight, and less rigid in shape so they can be more easily crammed into tight spaces (like overhead bins or under seats). This last point, however, also means you need to be cautious of what and how you pack. Make sure you don’t pack anything breakable (mail ahead if you have to) and try to cushion toiletry items that could break (or pack in a cushioned toiletry bag or 3-1-1 kit).
If a travel duffel bag sounds like something you want or need for your next trip, here are some affordable options below. If you’re looking for a bag with more bells and whistles, be sure to check out the eBags Mother Lode TLS Duffels.

If you travel a lot, you know the value of a good piece of luggage. While most luggage consists of rolling suitcases and carry-on bags, one convenient style is the wheeled duffle bag.
Rolling duffel bags are similar to their wheeled suitcase counterparts, but often come in unique patterns and bright colors and feature a little more flexibility when it comes to packing.

A weekend bag should reflect your personal style and the mood of your weekend getaway. If you have never seen the Miquelrius line of weekenders, they are some of the most unique and fun bags made. The Miquelrius Jordi Labanda Season Weekend Bag is full of attitude, done in beautiful shade of violet. This bag has double rolled handles, two large zip side pockets, a fun kitty pin handmade from tiny beads and is lined in a fun fabric. The front of this bag shows a carefree blonde woman looking slightly adventurous, which should set the tone for you weekend away.
If you want something a little more basic,
Chaps makes a 24” weekend duffel bag that is a perfect size for travel or sports. With polished nickel hardware, the opening is U-shaped for easy opening and packing. There are end pockets for organizing smaller items, as well as a large front pocket.
If you are looking for something that is waterproof, the Jesse B. Collection Weekender bag is cute, fun, and simple. This bag is done in small polka dots, and is mildew and UV resistant. If you are going on a longer trip and you know you will be bringing back a lot of souvenirs, this bag is great for throwing in your suitcase, as it folds flat. The straps are made of strong leather with an 11.5 inch drop length.
